Now, what should you bring?
A little preparation can make your conversation much more productive. You don’t need to arrive with a folder full of perfectly organized paperwork, but having a few pieces of information ready can help.
Start with your current healthcare coverage. If you already have Medicare coverage, bring information about your current plan.
Next, make a list of your doctors and specialists. Don’t forget providers you may only see occasionally.
Then make a current prescription list that includes the names and dosages of your medications. Prescription drug coverage is an important component of Medicare, so having accurate information is helpful when discussing your options.
You should also think about your preferred hospitals, pharmacies and other healthcare providers.
Finally—and this one is easy to overlook—bring your questions.
Write them down as you think of them. There is no such thing as a silly Medicare question. If there’s something you don’t understand, ask.
